Love-hatred, hunger for fame, lust, arrogance, affection, anger, pride, greed, and so on, vices are found in all creatures residing in 21 universes of Brahm Kaal, be it sages, great saints, Mandaleshwars, ascetics, spiritual gurus, demi-gods, Kings or any ordinary human being. All this is due to ignorance and a lack of true spiritual knowledge.

History witnesses that well known seekers, legendary characters had performed ages-long intense penance to attain God but by not adopting the right way of devotion mentioned in our ancient authentic holy scriptures those seekers had miserably failed to find God and finally ended up remaining trapped in the dangerous web of Satan Kaal and remained afar from being liberated and had been suffering in 84 lakh life species.

Several great sages whom people follow and admire wasted their precious human birth in false tantrums like doing meditation, wearing saffron clothes, applying sandalwood tilak on their forehead, keeping a long beard or shaved head or having a ponytail, etc., showcasing to the public that they are great devotees, but from inside they were zero in spiritual knowledge. Their pretentious approach in life became a reason for their downfall, and villain Kaal took complete advantage of their ignorance.

In this article, we will reveal the truth about one such ignorant oldest Vedic great sage whom people know by the name Vasishtha who aspired for God, performed intense austerity but became a prey to butcher Brahm Kaal and instead of attaining emancipation he is still suffering in ‘Chaurasi’ (84) because his way of worship was arbitrary meaning it was against the injunctions of holy scriptures. Moreover, the vices dominated him throughout his life.

Based on the following key points, let us know certain hidden facts about Vasishtha Muni in this write-up.

  • Ignorance of Vasishtha Muni in recognising Aadi Ram
  • Who was Vasishtha in the Ramayana
  • Accomplishments proved to be a curse for Sage Vashistha
  • The downfall of Sage Vashisht due to the difference between his words and actions
  • Who was Vasishtha in the Mahabharata

Ignorance of Vasishtha Muni in Recognising Aadi Ram

Aadi Ram/ Param Akshar Brahm/ Satpurush Kavir Dev is the creator of the entire universe (evidence in Suksham Veda Kabir Sagar). Rigved Mandal 9 Sukta 96 Mantra 18 says, Almighty God lives in the third liberation abode (Dhulok/ Mukti Dhaam) in an eternal place called Satlok.

Rigveda Mandal 10 Sukt 4 Mantra 3 and Mandal 9 Sukt 93 Mantra 2 state, Almighty God never takes birth from a mother's womb.

Note: Shri Ram was born from the womb of mother Kaushalya.

Aadi Ram comes to the realm of villain Brahm Kaal in all four eras.

Evidence Kabir Sagar, Bodh Sagar Khand, chapter- Bhavtaran Bodh, page no. 55

Satyug mein Satsukrat keh tera, Treta Naam Muninder mera। Dwapar mein Karunamay kahaya, Kalyug naam Kabir dharaya।।

Aadi Ram preaches His absolute divine knowledge in all four eras and tells to worship Ram/ Aadi Ram.

Ram Naam ratte raho, jab lag ghat mein praan। Kabahu to deen dayal ke, bhanak padegi kaan।।

Ram Ram sab jagat bakhane Aadi Ram koi birla jane||

It has been written in Suksham Veda Amargranth Sahib, Chapter Ath Raag Bilawal, Shabad 21:

Avigat Ram Kabir hai, chakve avinashi।

Brahma Vishnu wazir hai, Shiva karat khawasi।।

Amargranth Sahib, Chapter Ath Shabdi, page no. 462

Nirgun Sargun do dhara hai। Aadi Ram Kabir to nyara hai।

Aadi Ram Kavir Dev, in Satsukrat form, met Rajogun Lord Brahma in Satyug and preached him true spiritual knowledge and granted him a mantra to chant. In the same way, God Kabir met Lord Vishnu Ji, Shri Shankar Ji and gave them a specific mantra.

Initially, Brahma Ji accepted the absolute knowledge of Almighty Kabir, but later, with Kaal's inspiration, he got confused and considered Lord Vishnu to be the supreme power. Lord Brahma passed on the same corrupted knowledge further to other sages, saints thereafter.

Including Vasishtha, several sages of Satyuga accepted the power and glory of Ram's name as told by Brahma Ji and understood that the supreme father, the supreme God, is Ram, but did not believe that Aadi Ram is actually the supreme soul, the supreme God Kabir glorified in the Vedas.

Who was Vasishtha in the Ramayana

  • Naming of the sons of King Dasharatha
  • Vasishtha named four sons based on God's characteristics mentioned in the Vedas
  • Vashistha guru granted the mantra to Shri Ram
  • Vasishtha set the most auspicious time for the marriage of Ram and Sita

Sage Vashistha was the family priest (Kulpurohit) of the Suryavansha, King Dasharatha and used to assist him in religious rituals such as the birth of children in the family, naming of children (Naam Karan), determining auspicious time for marriage and rituals after death.

Naming of the Sons of King Dasharatha

  • Vishnu's knowledge of the supreme God
  • Durga's knowledge about the supreme God
  • Brahm Kaal’s revelation about the supreme God

An important fact mentioned in the Suksham Veda confirms that Vasishtha named the four sons of Dasharatha due to a misunderstanding. As informed by Shri Brahma Ji, Vasishtha Ji used to consider the incarnation of Shri Vishnu Ji born to King Dashratha in Tretayuga to be the supreme God mentioned in the Vedas as Ram, hence named him. But this was due to his ignorance.

The incomplete knowledge of Shri Brahma Ji became a reason for the spread of distorted spiritual knowledge. In this connection, when he told his son Vasishtha to become the ‘Purohit’, family priest of Suryavansha, then Vasishtha Ji disagreed as he used to consider it to be an inferior work.

In Ramcharitmanas, Uttarakhand, Doha 47, Chaupai 3, Vashistha Ji himself says

Mahima amiti bed nahi jana। Mein kehi bhanti kahau Bhagwana।।

Uprohitya karm ati manda। Bed puran sumriti kar ninda।।

Meaning: The priestly profession is very lowly. The Vedas, Puranas, and Smritis all condemn it. Yet Brahma Ji persuaded his son Vasishtha to be their family priest and do all ‘Karmakand’ (rituals), saying, ‘In the Suryavansh, Brahm, the supreme being, will incarnate in human form. He will be the King of Raghukul. He will grant Vashishtha His (divine) darshan, which will give Vashishtha fame and virtue.

Evidence of this is found in the Ramcharit Manas, Uttarakhand, Doha 47, Chaupai 4.

Jab na leun mein tab vidhi mohi। Kaha labh aage sut lohi॥

Parmatma Brahm nar roopa। Hoyeehi Raghukul bhooshan bhoopa॥

Brahma Ji had considered Vishnu Ji to be the supreme God. However, evidence from the Shrimad Devi Bhagavad Purana, specifically the third Skandh, Chapters 1-3, and the first Skandh, Chapter 4, certifies the incomplete knowledge of Lord Brahma and his misconception regarding the creator and nurturer of the universe.

Vishnu's Knowledge About the Supreme God

On the other hand, Lord Vishnu’s knowledge, which Brahma Ji considered the supreme God, was very limited; therefore, he admits that Goddess Durga/ Shakti, whom he worships, is the only supreme God.

Durga's Knowledge about the Supreme God

In Shrimad Devi Bhagavad Skand 7 Chapter 36, Goddess Durga rejects her worship and tells to worship Brahm (Jyoti Niranjan), stating he is the supreme God.

Brahm Kaal’s Revelation About Supreme God

The same Kaal Brahm tells in Gita 8:13 that his mantra is only Om. The mantra of the supreme God is of three words ‘Om Tat Sat’ (indicative Gita 17:23). He tells us to go to his refuge to attain supreme peace and Sanatan ultimate abode (Gita 18:62). That supreme God is the provider of salvation. He is ‘uttampurush’ who is eternal (Gita 15:17).

Vasishtha Named Four Sons Based on God's Characteristics Mentioned in Vedas

The Vedas describe the characteristics of the Supreme God, based on which Vashishtha Ji named Dasharatha's four sons. The evidence for this is found in the Ramcharit Manas Balakanda, Doha 196-197

  • Ramachandra: God is the ocean of bliss and the giver of peace to the three worlds.
  • Bharat: God nourishes the universe.
  • Shatrughna: Remembrance of God destroys enemies.
  • Lakshmana: God is the abode of auspicious characteristics.

Important: In reality, none of the four sons of King Dashratha possess these qualities. Only Almighty Kabir Dev possesses these qualities.

Vashistha Guru Granted Mantra to Shri Ram

Vashistha guru kiya Raghunatha। Paye daras tab bhaye sanatha ।।

Almighty Kavir Dev tells in the Suksham Veda

Kabir, Ram naam jo jaap karte hai, jaan Mukti ko kaam। Shri Ram ne Vasishtha guru kiya, jinhe deenha OM naam।।

Meaning: Those devotees who chant the name Ram-Ram, knowing that it leads to salvation, should ponder, when Shri Ram took initiation from guru sage Vashistha for his own welfare, then sage Vashistha had asked Shri Ram to chant the mantra 'Om'.

According to Vedic knowledge, only the mantra Om is best for chanting; there is no other mantra for Brahm Sadhana. Om mantra is of Kaal Brahm (Gita 8:13, Yajurved 40:15).

God Kabir indicates His (Aadi Ram’s) own mantra about which Vasishtha Ji was completely ignorant.

Ram Naam jap kar thir hoye, OM-Soham mantar doyee||

OM-Soham japley bhai, Ram naam ki yahee kamayee|

Vasishtha Set Most Auspicious Time for Marriage of Ram and Sita

Kabir, Vashisht muni se tatveta gyani, Shodh kar lagan dharey,

Sita haran maran Dasharath ko, Ban-Ban Ram phirey ||

Sage Vashistha, after doing complete spiritual and astrological calculations, fixed the most auspicious time for the marriage of Shri Ram and Sita so that they could lead a happy marital life, but both spent a tough time during the 14 years of exile. This is a well-known episode in the epic Ramayana, which proves no one can change destiny.

Note: The script of activities running like a film in Kaal's realm is already fixed by the divine. The incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Shri Ramchandra, suffered due to the curse of Narad Muni. All calculations of Vashistha Ji proved to be an utter failure.

Let us move ahead and know more about Sage Vashistha.

Accomplishments Proved to be A Curse for Sage Vashistha

  • Reason for the tussle between Vasishtha Muni and Sage Vishvamitra
  • Dip in the Ganga river could not neutralise the anger in Vasishtha
  • Sage Vashishtha cursed Trishanku/ Satyavrata of the Ikshvaku dynasty

The enmity of sage Vishvamitra and sage Vasishtha is well known to people. Both the sages are glorified for their devotion and accomplishments, but facts scripted in the most revered scripture Suksham Veda, highlight that both rishis were full of vices like anger, hunger for fame, arrogance, and wasted their powers in cursing rather than utilising them to attain God. The following speech of Sachhidanand Ghan Brahm certifies the same.

Reason Of Tussle Between Vasishtha Muni And Sage Vishvamitra

Sage Vishwamitra and Sage Vasishtha had a fierce conflict between them. Vashishtha Muni Ji used to call Vishwamitra Ji ‘Raj Rishi’ because Vishwamitra had previously been a king. Later, Vishwamitra renounced the Kingdom and began to meditate.

Vishwamitra used to tell sage Vashishtha, ‘Don't insult me in the assembly by calling me ‘Rajrishi. Call me Brahmrishi. Nevertheless, sage Vashishtha still called Vishwamitra "Raj Rishi". He said, "I will continue to call you 'Rajrishi’ until you become capable enough to be greeted as ‘Brahmrishi’. Since Vishvamitra was offended by the term ‘Raj Rish’, therefore,

Maharishi Vishvamitra killed 100 sons of Vasishtha Ji.

One day, Sage Vasishtha was teaching his disciples in his school. It was a full moon night (Purnamashi).  Everyone was sitting under a tree.

After their evening prayers, the children were discussing with their Gurudev Vasishtha Ji. At the same time, Vishwamitra was sitting on top of the same tree carrying a sword in his hand, intending to kill Vashistha ‘Let these children leave today after completing their sadhana, then I will kill Vasishtha.  With this murderous intention, Sage Vishwamitra was hiding on top of that same tree.

Vashistha Muni's disciples began to say

‘O Gurudev! We miss our brothers very much. They were your sons. That evil Vishwamitra killed them. He is a very vile soul. He is not a Brahmin’.

Ponder, if anyone kills a hundred sons of some person, then that person can never praise him, but a superior soul, a noble soul, will certainly speak the truth.

Vasishtha Ji said that ‘Children, don't say that.

Viswamitra is not evil; he is not a devil.

He is a man with a very good soul.

If he does not have raga-malice, pride, hunger for fame,  anger then there would be no man like him.

Hearing his enemy praise him, Vishwamitra’s hands and legs trembled due to guilt. He realised that he is a despicable person and too arrogant, therefore, killed 100 sons of Vasishtha Ji, yet he is praising me. ’ Vishvamitra grabbed a branch from the tree and leapt down.

Viswamitra fell at Vashistha's feet and cried badly and said ‘Forgive me! You truly are a great man.

Then Vashishtha Ji said, "Get up, Brahmrishi. Today, you have become a ‘Brahmrishi’. The raga-malice, the filth, and this evil within you have vanished. Today, your heart wept.

Important: Until a person weeps for God, he has not become a devotee.

Dip in the Ganga river could not neutralise the anger in Vasishtha

Once, Sage Vashistha and Sage Vishwamitra lived in ashrams on the banks of the Ganges River. They bathed daily in the waters of the Ganges River and drank the same water. Once, they disagreed with something. Both sages drew their weapons and got ready to kill each other. Some people intervened and ended the war.

It has been said in the Suksham Veda

Kabir, Ganga kanth ghar kare piye nirmal neer। Mukti nahi Sarnaam bin, keh sach Kabir ।। Kabir, tirath kar-kar jag muaa, ude pani nahaye। Satnaan japa nahi, Kaal ghaseete jaye।।

Meaning: One may live on the banks of the river Ganga, considering it to be the giver of salvation and drinking its pure water, but salvation is not possible without the true scripture-based mantra of devotion.

Sage Vashishtha Cursed Trishanku/ Satyavrata of the Ikshvaku Dynasty

Sage Vashishtha and Sage Vishwamitra had a bitter rivalry. Another episode in this context was when Vishvamitra went into the forest to perform spiritual practice, seeking to attain spiritual powers and become more powerful than Sage Vashishtha, thus gaining public recognition.

He performed intense penance for 12 years. During these 12 years, a famine struck. King Harishchandra's grandfather, a companion of sage Vishwamitra named Trishanku/ Satyavrata belonging to the Ikshvaku dynasty, wanted to go to heaven in his mortal body, but his father exiled him due to his misconduct.

During that famine, King Harishchandra's grandfather, Trishanku/ Satyavrata, arranged food for Vishwamitra's family and his children. He gathered fruits from a distant forest and fed them, due to which Vishwamitra's children survived.

Sage Vashishtha got to know about this matter. He was the family priest (kul purohit).Trishanku/ Satyavrata

requested Vashishtha muni to tell him about a spiritual practice that would enable him to ascend to heaven in his mortal body. Vashishtha, in turn, became angry and cursed him to become like a Shudra because Vashishtha was his guru, Trishanku/ Satyavrata was his host, and he had protected the children of his enemy sage Vishwamitra. As a result of Vashishtha's curseTrishanku/ Satyavrata's body became like a demon.

Later, sage Vishwamitra sent Trishanku/ Satyavrata to heaven in his mortal body, using his powers.

Downfall of Sage Vashisht Due to the Difference Between His Words And Actions

  • Vasishtha cursed King Nimi
  • Vasishtha and the extension of the Suryavansh
  • Vasishtha Rishi and the establishment of Vriddha Sangam Tirth

Ref: Shri Vishnu Purana, part one, Chapter 1, Verse 12 - 21 on page no. 2

Shri Parashara's father, Shri Shakti Rishi, was devoured by demons at the behest of Sage Vishwamitra. Shri Parashara initiated a religious sacrifice to destroy the demons, in which hundreds of demons were burned to death. Then Shri Parashara's grandfather, Shri Vashishtha, explained to Parashara, "Son, this was bound to happen to your father. Anger only happens to fools; how can it happen to thoughtful people?.

Anger is a powerful destroyer of even the fame and penance accumulated by a man through great hardship. Therefore, end this religious sacrifice of yours. The wealth of saints is forgiveness. Upon Mahatma Dadaji's persuasion, Shri Parashar Ji ended the yajna that was supposed to destroy demons.

Vasishtha Cursed King Nimi

Vishnu Purana, part 4, Chapter 5, Verse 1 - 10 on page no. 252

Ikshvaku's son, Nimi, decided to perform a continuous yajna for a thousand years and requested sage Vasishtha to perform it. Vasishtha replied, "I have committed to Indra to perform a religious sacrifice for him that will last for five hundred years. After that, I will perform your sacrifice." Since King Nimi remained silent on this, Vashishtha assumed the king had accepted his request. Meanwhile, King Nimi began the sacrifice with the help of sage Gautama. After completing Indra's sacrifice, Sage Vashistha returned to King Nimi's home. Seeing Sage Gautama performing the ritual, Sage Vashistha got annoyed and cursed King Nimi, saying, "You will die." King Nimi was sleeping at that time. When Nimi woke up, he discovered that Vashishtha had cursed him to die. The king cursed Vashishtha, saying, "You too will die." Both of them died.

The ling body of sage Vashistha entered the semen of Mitravaruna. Upon seeing celestial beauty, Urvashi, Mitravaruna ejaculated, which fell into a nearby pitcher. From that pot, Vashishtha's ling body regained his mortal body.

In this context respected Sant Garib Das Ji says

Ling shareer moksh nahi bhai। Aage jaa kar deh uthayee।

Vasishtha and Extension of Suryavansh

Vishnu Purana, Part 4, Chapter 4, Verse 38 - 72 on page no. 247 - 249

There was a king named Mitrasaha in the Ikshvaku dynasty. Vashistha was his family guru who performed religious sacrifices for him. The king had killed a demon who was in the form of a deer in the forest. The demon had died in the form of a demon. The demon's companion, also disguised as a deer, had sworn to avenge his companion and disappeared. After the ritual was complete, Vashishtha went out for a walk. The deer demon returned from behind, disguised as Vashishtha. Mitrasaha said to the King, 'Get human flesh ready for me to eat, I will come in a short while’. The king obeyed the order.

When Vashishtha arrived, the king served him with human flesh in a golden bowl.

Sage Vashishtha thought that the king was proud and had deliberately given him human flesh to eat. Then Vashishtha, enraged with anger, cursed the king, saying, "You will become a demon and will eat human flesh". The king replied, "Guru Ji, you were the one who told me to prepare human flesh".

Then, Vashishtha concentrated and got to know the reason. Considering the king innocent, he said, "You will have to eat human flesh for only twelve years, meaning you will remain a demon for twelve years. Then you will be fine"  By then, the king's disciple wanted to curse his guru but did not curse him on the advice of his wife.

One day, a Brahmin sage was enjoying himself with his wife when he was eaten by a demon named Mitrasha, who had become a king. When the Brahmin woman told him to stop, he did not agree, then she cursed the king, saying, "Whenever you have a physical relationship with your wife, you will die that day". Twelve years later, the king was freed from the curse. When he wanted to have a physical relationship with his wife, the queen reminded him of the curse of the Brahmin woman. From that day onwards, the king gave up maintaining physical relationships with women.

The king was childless. The family guru, sage Vashishtha, impregnated his wife, and she gave birth to a son named Ashmaka. From Ashmak, born from the semen of Vashistha, King Dasharatha and Shri Ramchandra, Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna were born in the same clan.

God Kabir says

Pandit aur masalchi, dono sujhe naaye। Auran ko kare channa, rahe aap andhere maaye ।।

It is clear from the words of the Supreme God Kabir that there was a stark difference between the words and actions of sage Vashistha. He preached to others not to get angry, but he himself cursed out of anger. This disorder deprived him of salvation.

God Kabir says

Kabir, kehte hain karte nahi, muh se bade labaar। Jampur dhakke khayenge, Dharmrai darbaar ।। Kabir, Karni Taj Kathni kathe, agyani din raat। Kukar jyon bhaunkat phire, suni-sunayee baat ।।

Vasishtha Rishi And Establishment Of Vriddha Sangam Tirth

Ref: Shri Brahma Puran page 173-175

Once, sage Gautam, aged 10,000 years, married an old lady aged 90,000 years who was performing austerity in a cave inside a hill. Both continued living there. One day, sage Vashisht and sage Vamdev visited them. Sage Vashisht mocked Sage Gautam, saying ‘Is this old lady your mother or your grandmother?’. After this humiliation, on the advice of sage  Agastya, both the old lady and sage Gautam performed intense penance on the banks of the river Gautami. They remembered Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. River Ganga told both of them to do anointing to each other while chanting specific mantras. Both husband and wife followed her advice and soon became young and good-looking. With that mantra, water from a river named ‘Vraddha’ started flowing. Both husband and wife did love-making for several years. Later, that place became famous as ‘Vraddha Sangam Teerth’. Sage Gautan established a ‘Shivling’ for worship, and that place became famous as Vridheshwar.

With the inspiration of Kaal Brahm, people perform worship there, which is not certified in any holy scriptures. A visit to places of pilgrimage or keeping fasts, etc., is strictly prohibited in Gita Chapter 16 Verses 23 and 24. There is no benefit in worshipping idols or visiting pilgrims, hence, useless.

Gist - Sage Vasishtha was a ball of fire filled with arrogance due to the accomplishments he possessed. He could not attain salvation because his spiritual practice was wrong. The same was the condition of Vishvamitra, Parashar, Gautam Rishi, Chunak, Durvasa, etc.

In this connection God Kabir says

Sur nar Muni Jan

33 karoree

Bandhe sabhi Niranjan dori||

Sadhana (practice) against the scriptures is fruitless and deceitful. All these 33 Koti deities, 88 thousand rishi, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva are tied up with the rope/ tradition of kaal Brahm. They cannot be separated from him; therefore, they can never be liberated unless they find Satguru (Gita 15:1-4) and do devotion to the supreme father, supreme God Kavir Dev.

Kabir Panthi terminology page no. 440.441 says

Guru bin Mukti nahi re prani ।।

Satguru guru hai aadi ant ke data। Guru hai Mukti padarath bhrata ।। Guru Ganga Kashi asthana। Chari Ved guru gamte jana ।। Guru hai sursari nirmal dhara। Bin guru ghat nahi ho ujiyara ।।

Adhsath teerath brahmi-brahmi aave। Guru ki daya ghar baithahin pave ।।

Who Was Vasishtha In Mahabharata

Sage Vasishtha is respectfully mentioned in the Suksham Veda as one amongst those luminaries of his time, along with Sage Durvasa, Sage Chunak,  Kapilmuni, etc., who are known for several great works they performed and became famous, in spite of the fact that they were all worshippers of Kaal Brahm.

Vasishtha Vishvamitra aaye, Durvasa aur Chunak bulaye।|

There is a true account mentioned in the epic Mahabharata when, after the war was over and Yudhishthira was enthroned on Indraprasta, he started having nightmares due to the effect of ‘teen taap’. The dead soldiers as ghosts used to trouble him. He used to hear the hue and cry, the widows screaming, the orphans crying badly and so on. On the advice of Shri  Krishna, a religious ritual was performed in which sage Vasishtha,  Sage Vishvamitra,  Lomas rishi, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, 33 Koti divinities, the whole Yadava clan, etc. were invited. All of them, including Lord Krishna, ate food in that Bhandara, but the ‘Panchmukhi conch shell did not sound, which was kept as a symbol of the successful completion of Yajna, confirming that the sins incurred by the Pandava brothers in war have finished.

The conch shell sounded loud only when God Kabir, disguised in the form of one of His beloved disciples named Supach Sudarshan, ate food prepared by Draupadi. It was because, including sage Vasishtha, all dignitaries like 88,000 sages, 12 crore Brahmans, 9 Naths, 84 perfect men, and 56 crore Yadavas present in that Yajna were not true worshippers of the supreme God Kavir Dev. None of them used to chant true salvation mantras, Satnaam and Sarnaam. Their worship was arbitrary, with which salvation can never be attained, and seekers remain in the cycle of ‘Chaurasi (84)’.

Conclusion

The complete God/ Aadi Ram/ Satpurush has incarnated in this realm of Kaal Brahm in the form of Tatvadarshi Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj to liberate His beloved souls. He is providing true spiritual knowledge so that no one remains ignorant like sage Vasishtha and gets liberated from Kaal's trap, and by chanting true salvation mantras, Satnaam and Saar Naam should reach Satlok.
